Are You Mobile Friendly?

Find out how Google rates you and how to change it

A big change came in April when Google announced that it prioritize search results for mobile and responsive friendly websites over ones that did not show up well on smart phones and tablets. This may seem like a small change but now a days over 62% of all searches occur on mobile devices in particular when looking for places, locations, services and for ecommerce.

Business execs use mobile devices heavily

Mobile is preferred over the PC for executives conducting research during and after office hours, according to the IDG Global Mobile Survey 2014

• 92 percent of executives own a smartphone used for business.

• 77 percent of executives use smartphones to research products and services.

• 93 percent of executives will purchase that product using a laptop or desktop.

• 86 percent own a tablet and search for products or services for business.

These facts can’t be ignored and you can’t just assume if you’re not an ecommerce or consumer facing branding it doesn’t matter. Searches happen from many devices and many locations and you can’t ignore that.

Easy to view sites rank higher in search results

In general a mobile friendly site simply allows the website to automatically change size and configuration of content including type size and image arrangement, for the device you’re on.

It just makes it easier for everything to happen for the user.

Facebook now gets the vast majority of it’s traffic and interactions through it’s mobile version for example.

Updating your site? Our recommendations:

In the process of updating your site to a mobile friendly interface you’ll also have a chance to improve your position in search and be discovered by new customers.

• UPDATE TO A MOBILE FRIENDLY PLATFORM that’s right for you. If you have ecommerce activities going on or focus on new content updates you want a platform you can easily manage internally and get updates to stay current for the latest devices.

• INCLUDE A CMS YOU CAN EASILY MANAGE. Many platforms now enable video on the site or through links on other sites such as Vimeo or YouTube all enabled to be seen on smart phones and tablets

• USE OPEN SOURCE OR EASILY UPDATED PLATFORMS. Avoid highly customized sites that will require complete updating in a year or less sometimes.

• DEVELOP YOUR NEW SITE WITH SEO IN MIND. SEO or search engine optimization is the key in site ranking. This in combination with PPC or pay per click advertising is the standard for sites to gain visibility and ranking on Google search.
